After seeing the slaughter of Ravana, the gods, gandharvas and danavas departed in their own aerial vehicles, discussing the good tidings. Discussing the horrible slaughter of Ravana, Rama’s prowess, the fine battle put up by the monkeys, Sugreeva’s counsel, the devotion and valor of Hanuman and Lakshmana, the faithfulness of Sita to Her husband and the heroism of Hanuman, those blessed ones left the same way that they had come. Giving permission for that brilliant chariot sent by Indra to leave, Rama bid adieu to Matali. When permitted by Rama, Matali, the charioteer of Indra, mounted the celestial chariot and flew into the sky itself. When that best of charioteers had ascended to heaven with his chariot, the overjoyed Rama embraced Sugreeva. After embracing Sugreeva, being urged by Lakshmana, Rama headed for the army camp while being honored by the monkey hordes.
Then Rama said to the honest Lakshmana, who was shining with splendor and standing nearby: “My dear brother, please crown Vibhishana king of Lanka, for he is fond of Me, devoted to Me and does good things for Me. This is my greatest wish, that I should see Ravana’s younger brother Vibhishana crowned king of Lanka.” After being instructed in that way by the great Rama, Lakshmana replied: “So be it!” With great satisfaction He took the golden jar. Delivering that jar into the hands of monkey chieftains, He instructed those who were as swift as thought and very powerful to fetch water from the ocean. After departing quickly, those eminent monkeys returned bringing water from the ocean. Taking one pot, Lakshmana sat Vibhishana on a great throne. With that jar Lakshmana then consecrated Vibhishana as king among the rakshasas of Lanka by the order of Lord Rama. Surrounded by hordes of well-wishers, the righteous Lakshmana sprinkled the pure Vibhishana in accordance with scriptural rules. Vibhishana’s ministers and those rakshasas who were devoted to him were pleased to see him consecrated as lord of the rakshasas of Lanka.
After receiving that great kingdom given to him by Rama, Vibhishana consoled his subjects and then went to see Rama. Now the joyous night-stalkers who dwelt in the city brought Vibhishana whole grains, round sweetmeats, puffed grains, as well as flowers. Accepting them, the valiant Vibhishana offered all those auspicious items to Rama and Lakshmana. Seeing that Vibhishana had accomplished his goals, Rama accepted all that as His own sweet will.
Then Rama spoke the following words to Hanuman, who resembled a mountain and who was bowing nearby with joined palms: “Taking permission from the great king Vibhishana, my dear Hanuman, enter the city of Lanka and ask Sita about Her well-being. O best of speakers, inform her of the well-being of Myself, Lakshmana and Sugreeva, and that Ravana has been killed in battle. Give Sita this good news, O monkey lord. After getting a message from her, you should return.”
Thus completes 112th Chapter of Yuddha Kanda of the glorious Ramayana of Valmiki, the work of a sage and the oldest epic.
